University of Isfahan President Urges Global Academic Community to Act Against Attacks on Iran’s Universities

In response to recent developments and attacks targeting the Islamic Republic of Iran’s scientific and academic infrastructure, the President of the University of Isfahan has strongly condemned these actions and expressed profound indignation, calling on universities, scholarly communities, and international organizations worldwide to take immediate and decisive action.

He emphasized that these attacks occurred at a time when diplomatic negotiations were actively underway, mediated by the Sultanate of Oman, in an atmosphere marked by clear and well-founded optimism regarding positive outcomes. Despite this constructive process, the attacks are described as a serious violation of international law and internationally recognized norms. The human consequences—including harm to innocent civilians, among them children, as well as damage to educational and research infrastructure—were also underscored.

Recent reports indicate that multiple universities and research centers across Iran have been damaged in strikes, raising serious concerns within the global academic community about the growing vulnerability of higher education institutions in conflict settings .

The President further denounced the targeting of universities and scientific institutions as a direct assault on the foundations of knowledge, education, and human progress, stressing that such actions not only affect Iran’s academic community but also challenge the shared values of the international scholarly community.

He called upon universities and international academic bodies to adopt clear and responsible positions, to unequivocally condemn these attacks, and to take an active role in safeguarding the fundamental principles of higher education and the protection of academic institutions as civilian entities.
