UINA Lab is part of the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology & Microbiology in the Faculty of Biological Science and Technology at the University of Isfahan (UI). UI was founded in 1946 and is now one of the top universities in Iran with fourteen faculties (as of 2021).
UI is located in the heart of Isfahan, the capital of culture and civilization that is renowned for its historical and architectural masterpieces as well as artistic and colorful handicrafts with UNESCO heritage registered sites. Isfahan, as a "Creative City of Crafts and Folk Art", is a member of UNESCO’s World Creative Cities Network.
One of the magnificent landmarks of Isfahan is Meidan Emam (Naqsh-e Jahan Square), one of the largest city squares in the world from the Safavid era (17th century), which is adorned on each side with glorious buildings, including Sheikh Loṭfollāh Mosque, Imam Mosque, Alī Qāpū Palace, and Qaisariya Bazaar (Grand Bazaar). Isfahan is the city of spectacular bridges like Khaju Bridge, Si-o-Seh Pol (The Bridge of 33 Arches), Choobi Bridge, and Maarnaan Bridge along the Zayanderud River, showing a stunning illustration of the combination of art and engineering. Other sights, including Masjed-e Jāmé (‘Friday mosque’), Chehel Sotoon Palace, Vank Cathedral, Hasht Behesht Palace, Menar Jonban, Chaharbagh Boulevard, Chahar Bagh School, Abbasi Hotel, Atashgah fire temple, and Moshir-al-molk Historical House are just a part of its beauties.
Due to all these beauties, the Persians call Isfahan "Nesf-e-Jahan", meaning "Half The World"!
